A spelling adventure in 3D block worlds
Royal Quest is a series of 3D adventures set in block-built worlds. The princess has been taken, and the hero climbs, fights and spells their way through one chapter at a time to bring her home.
In each chapter the hero walks the world and meets foes. The scene changes to a battle ground where the foe throws axes with letters on them. The child swings a sword to smash the wrong letters and lets the right letter hit them. Nothing says which letter is right until the word is finished; a wrong word costs one of ten hearts, and at zero hearts the quest ends. Beat every foe and the boss fight opens, with one word for each of the boss's health bars.
The camera can be turned, tilted and zoomed, the hero wears the hats and pets your child has bought in the coin shop, and each chapter ends with a short story scene. Chapter 1 is playable now. Later chapters will be harder, with more foes, faster axes and more decoy letters.
How a chapter works
- Walk with the arrow keys (or the on-screen pad). An arrow points to the nearest foe.
- When you meet a foe, the battle ground appears and the word is read aloud.
- Press Space (or Swing!) to smash the wrong letters. Let the right letter hit you.
- Finish the word. A wrong spelling costs a heart, shows the right spelling and a tip, and the fight moves on to a different word.
- Beat every foe, then the boss, and watch the ending.

A dragon has carried off Robin, the princess's best friend, to the top of a mountain. Climb it, beat the skeletons, then face the dragon.

The King and Queen are locked away, guarded by the Second Boss. Free them - they know where the Final Boss hid the princess.

Royal Quest questions
Is Royal Quest free?
The first chapter is free. Later chapters are part of the Family plan.
Does it need a special device?
It needs a browser that can show 3D graphics (WebGL), which most tablets, laptops and phones from the last several years can do. If a device can't, the game says so and the other games still work.
How does a chapter get cleared?
By winning it in the Daily Challenge over a full-length quest. Free Practice is a shorter version and doesn't clear a chapter.
Is it scary?
The foes are blocky cartoon skeletons and a dragon, there is no gore, and a lost quest simply means trying again.
Does it have music?
Yes. There is gentle background music that changes with the scene, and it gets quieter whenever a word is read aloud. A Music button turns it off, and the game's sound settings turn off all game sounds.
What happens when my child spells a word wrong?
They lose a heart and see the correct spelling with a short tip. The fight then moves on to a different word, so the same word isn't thrown at them straight away; it can come back in later practice.
Does my child need to read a lot?
The word and its sentence are read aloud, and story scenes have short captions that are also spoken.
